Molly Boyd reports that a new photography exhibit entitled “Strange & Not So Strange” is being displayed in Mullins Library. The photographs are part of a series of portraits taken with an instant camera of people on Dickson Street by Fayetteville photographer Craig E. Nelson. The online exhibit can be viewed at http://libinfo.uark.edu/info/artexhibit.asp#nelsoncraig. Why, you might be wondering, is Molly Boyd’s mug included in the series? The insider’s scoop is that Craig is a former student of Molly’s (as is Allon Callahan of Circulation). She prefers to think that her picture falls under the category of “not so strange,” but she will be happy to show you another picture taken in the same series by Craig that contains a mysterious light blur across her face, which is stranger.

CUARL, the Council of University of Arkansas Research Libraries, has recently created a K-12 Education Portal. The purpose of the portal is to help teachers and students locate and use learning resources that are offered online around the state. The database includes a short description of each site and highlights content to encourage users to click on a link and use the site. We hope you will take a moment to review the Portal (http://libinfo.uark.edu/cuarl/k12portal/) and let us know what you think. Please let Elizabeth McKee know if you find an error. Keep in mind that the descriptions are very brief. Index keywords that are most useful for calling attention to the content to teachers and students are, for example, “lesson plans,” “internships,” “subject areas,” and “continuing education.” The search engine for the site will retrieve any word (or root word) in a description, the site name, or the keywords themselves. The keywords are not visible on the public side, so if you try to retrieve a site you are familiar with but are unable to do so, please let Elizabeth know. The Education “porters” thank everyone in the Libraries who have helped so much, especially Beth Juhl, who built this site incorporating a design done by Heather Smith at UAMS, co-chair of the Portal Committee. You can use the Portal to send feedback or contact Elizabeth directly.
